Global warming and decreasing glacier ice have long been a topic of the climate change believers and disbelievers. A new satellite being launched today in Europe will allow scientists to measure the thickness of ice from space.

CryoSat 2, the name given to the satellite by the European Space Agency, will be the only satellite in space that can provide ice measurement with such detail. Many of the satellites predecessors were able to provide extremely valuable and shocking information to scientists about the shrinking polar ice caps, however none of these orbiters are still in operation.

The satellite will orbit approximately 447 miles above earth for an expected 3-5 years, providing measurements on fixed and floating ice down within 1 centimeter of actual thickness (amazing!).

The Kenyan government has appropriated $6.6 million to supply solar panels to rural regions that to this day still do not have electricity.

The pilot project, costing $3.6 million will allow remote communities to enjoy more modern medical care, better education tools, and entertainment.

Kenya has long been a consumer of solar powered lamps, flashlights, and even hot water heaters. The government has set a goal to be 100% dependent on renewable energy by 2012.

I think it’s somewhat awesome that pre-industrial revolution countries can leap frog past the pollution straight into renewable power. Now if we could just break our bad habit.

Australians have just suffered through the hottest decade ever recorded and there is no break in site for the new year. The average temperature was half a degree Celsius above the average temperature over the past 50 years. Climate experts expect temperatures to be a fool 1° above average over the next year.

Australia is one of the hottest places on the planet. Any effects brought on by climate change will be amplified in this region. Brush fires, droughts, and dust storms already plagued many parts of the country.

2009 was the second hottest year ever recorded almost topping the record heat of 2005. Global warming activists blame Australia’s use of coal and other cheap fuels for partially fueling the never ending he waves. Australia is one of the worst per capita emitters of greenhouse gases on earth.

Climate Change Activists parade through downtown Copenhagen on Wednesday beating drums and chanting slogans.

A group of Protesters are beaten and arrested after breaking through the police line at the end of the parade route.  You can hear someone on a megaphone give the call to action, a countdown ensues, then the protestors rush through the police line.

Over 900 people have been arrested by Danish police in Copenhagen this week.

It seems like a few people that were initially very brave at the start of this where stuck in front of the mass,  and pushed into the police if they liked it or not.   It seems like there was no escape if they were caught in the front of the swarm.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s presentation at the United Nation’s Conference on Climate Change (COP15) in Copenhagen Denmark today.

Arnold starts out thanking various dignitaries from around the world and throws out a few quick jokes before getting down to the business of addressing the challenges involved with creating a global treaty to help curb climate change.

Schwarzenegger’s wildly anticipated presentation was preceded by a series of domestic appearances and interviews over the past several months. He has long been an outspoken advocate of fighting global warming and greenhouse gases.

His speech focuses on helping developing countries avoid the fossil fuel revolution by using alternative energies. He cites Kenya’s 75% reliance on hydro-electrical power, the decreasing price of solar power, and his expectation that the Green Revolution will happen much quicker than people anticipate.

Al Gore’s presentation to the COP15 Delegates included some startling statistics, potential impacts, and possible solutions.

Gore presents data from new reports and cites new computer models showing the rate of ice melting on the polar caps has doubled.

Gore highlighted his presentation with references to slides and reports predicting the entire northern hemisphere being ice free within 5 years as he presents to ministers, media, and guests.

Police move in to arrest several protestors with brute force and dogs as intimidation on a street in Copenhagen Denmark near the Summit.

Critics say the global warming theory may be nothing more than hot air as the COP15 UN Climate Conference draws near. The debate stems from leaked emails stolen from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University (CRU) in Britain.

Thousands of emails from staff at CRU, the main source for measuring global temperatures, were compromised by Russian hackers and posted on a Russian server earlier this week. The media firestorm that followed, named ClimateGate, was an epic backslide for the Global Warming Movement.

The emails show that temperatures have not risen in the past 10 years and are likely to fall over the next several years. The emails expose a system of peer reviews and data manipulation that tried to hide the lack of rising temperatures.

Bill has a somewhat biased approach, and there are many organizations complaining about how far out of context the shadey statements were taken from the emails.

These satellite photos, recently released under the Freedom of Information Act, show a dramatic change in the sea ice surrounding Barrow Alaska. It is estimated that approximately 1 million kilometers of sea ice disappeared in 2007 alone.

The Obama administration is hoping congress and the senate will pass a new climate change bill before the President heads to the COP15 summit in Copenhagen.
